Kimberly Skaggs

I grew up in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the daughter of working-class parents in a wonderful family.  Because we didn’t always have the money to do the “extra” things growing up, I learned the value of hard work from a very young age, which has served me well in all aspects of my life – I believe in working hard to achieve success in any arena, and I believe those work lessons translate into life lessons for us all.  After working my way through high school and then college, I graduated from NMSU in 1993.

My college years afforded me some incredible work opportunities, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Otero County where I worked as a student aid, learning firsthand how hard it is for non-profit organizations to secure the funding to make a difference.  I also worked at the High Speed Test Track, located at Holloman Air Force Base, as a student aid for the engineering branch, which gave me an inside look at how our defense dollars are spent.

My husband Joseph is a 3rd generation water well driller, and together we own and operate a water well drilling business of our own.  We have also owned several other small businesses in New Mexico, where we raised our two crazy boys.  I spend my spare time with my horses, which I truly love!

This is my first venture into the political arena.  In the past, I assumed that this kind of thing was for “politicians”, not businesspeople. I became convinced that as a businesswoman, I can bring a level of knowledge and expertise to our state’s legislature that is not only valuable, but necessary and needed.  Career politicians very often lose sight of the people they represent, don’t understand the implications of their decisions in the real world, or don’t want to listen when change is needed. As your next State Senator, I will not lose sight of my responsibility to represent each and every one of us nor what my actions will mean to you and your family. You will be my only priority, and I will work diligently to make things better for us all.
